MUNA is a new film festival distribution agency based in Lisbon and created in 2024 by Marta Batista, who has helped films be selected at festivals such as Tallinn Black Nights, Torino Film Festival, Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara, IndieLisboa International Film Festival, Durban International Film Festival, and many others. MUNA’s mission is to help filmmakers navigate the complex world of film festivals. We believe that the filmmaker’s job is to tell stories that resonate, and we want to help them travel the world and find new audiences.

The film festival world is competitive and sometimes unapproachable to many independent filmmakers, who often find themselves spending too much on festivals that don’t suit their films or are a scam. At MUNA, our goal is to take that aspect out of the filmmaker’s hands, offering valuable guidance on how to show films to the right audiences. Through a limited line-up, we ensure that each film receives the required attention in order to maximize its distribution potential. We value transparency at all steps, with services that are easy to understand and constant communication with filmmakers and producers.

We handle all aspects of a film’s festival run, including:

  • Research of festivals, consultation and personalized advice to the filmmakers/producers on the most suitable festivals for their film and the best premiere strategies.
  • A customized festival strategy tailored to each film’s strengths.
  • Direct contact with festival programmers from all over the world.
  • Unlimited submissions to hundreds of festivals worldwide.
  • Cost-effective submissions, taking advantage of our many fee waivers and discounts.
  • Regular reports on submissions made and results obtained.
  • Submission to awards.
  • Representation and promotion of the film at industry events, markets and with festival programmers.
  • Follow-up on selections, acting at every step as the intermediary between the filmmakers and the festivals.
  • Print traffic coordination and management of all material deliveries needed for festival exhibition and promotion.
  • Coordination of logistics and production with regards to festival attendence and industry events.
  • Negotiation of screening fees with festivals.
  • Support in the marketing and promotion of the film.
  • Any monetary prizes awarded to the film will go 100% to the producers, with no hidden commissions.
