SYNOPSIS

As the theater empties, the stage expands, unfolding across the country in a journey where memory, landscape, and performance intertwine.

In 2023, the historic D. Maria II National Theater closed for renovation works. What followed was a national tour that traveled through towns, villages, and landscapes, engaging cultural agents and communities on a journey outside the Theater’s walls. By transforming the country into a stage and local communities into the protagonists, Somewhere Between the Tree and the Forest proposes a living theater that reflects on themes of decentralization, immigration, identity, and the role of art in social change, weaving memory, affection, and collective imagination.
